RECYCLING PROGRAMS:
Turn Your Empties into Community Support!
Several of our community programs and services benefit from additional funding generated by the bottle depots Cosmos operates.
For over 50 years, Cosmos has been serving the residents of Central Alberta by providing many kinds of support for citizens with disabilities. In a new community initiative, Cosmos Bottle Depots Ltd. is now making an effort to reach out and serve a greater number of residents of Red Deer, Blackfalds and area in a variety of ways.
The “Turn Your Empties into Community Support” project involves large donation bins being placed around Red Deer and surrounding area to collect refundable beverage containers to support local initiative.
100% of the proceeds collected from these bins will be directed back into non-profit organizations in our own community. Cosmos is excited to make recycling more accessible, less of a chore, and to help people in need all at the same time.
What Your Depot Can Do For You:
• Sort and count your containers
• Provide an accurate refund
• Provide a printed receipt at your request
• Commercial pickups for businesses that produce a large volume of beverage containers
• Help set up a donation program or bottle drive
• Provide recycling bins and support for community events

Did you know?..
Albertans achieved a non-refillable beverage container return rate of 85% in 2023.
More than two billion beverage containers are returned annually in Alberta.
Recycling one aluminum can save enough energy to run your TV for three hours.
It takes only 1,000 milk jugs to make a new recycled park bench.
The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle can run a 100-watt light bulb for four hours.
The same amount of energy is used to produce one new aluminum can as twenty recycled cans.
Aluminum cans can be recycled over and over again. There’s no limit on the number of times they can be recycled.
Beverage container recycling helps the environment by keeping useful materials out of landfills and by eliminating the energy demand and emissions associated with manufacturing new products from raw materials.
In 2023, the recycling of Alberta’s non-refillable beverage containers diverted 99,245,030 kg of material away from landfills and into a useful future.
