Career services at Cosmos are designed to help people gain the skills, knowledge, and training to successfully compete in today's’ ever-changing labor market. We offer thirty years of experience in supporting job seekers, employers and industry leaders through our innovative and flexible training programs. Most importantly, our client’s on-going success speaks for itself.
Our extensive volunteer services and community partnerships offer something for everyone. Volunteering is a great way for people to make a difference in their community, connect with others, and develop new skills. We take a holistic approach to identifying the skills, talents, and interests of those wishing to volunteer.
Recreation and Leisure
So much is on offer through our recreation and leisure services; including both modified and progressive sessions to meet the diverse interests and abilities of our clients. Our community-based sessions run on a 3-month basis; offering subsidized and no-cost options for individuals living with a disability, mental health needs, FASD, chronic illness, brain injury, or sensory impairment.
Life Skills & IT Courses
Many of our clients benefit from participating in a range of our short courses. These sessions are a blend of client-led and facilitated learning, and are aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with mental health needs, physical disabilities, brain injuries, developmental disabilities and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Dream Catchers Toastmasters Club
Our Dream Catchers Toastmasters Club is part of an international educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations. Toastmasters Clubs allow people to learn the art of communication, public speaking and listening.
Several of our community programs and services benefit from additional funding generated by the two Bottle Depot centers Cosmos operates in Red Deer. Both our depots on Orr Drive and the North Hill support countless bottle drives for community charities and service organizations. We also have several drop box locations around the city for our customers’ convenience.
Youths in Transition
Our experiences with clients and their families tells us that transitioning from youth to adulthood can, at times, be challenging for any adolescent, and youth with disabilities often have increased vulnerabilities as they prepare to leave home and/or school. To meet the growing need for accessible, comprehensive information on lifestyle options, we have developed a 4-part Youth in Transition series which explores the range of available community services and supports for youth who may need transitional services.
Our information sessions present information and resources in relation to funding, education, volunteerism, employment, living arrangements, healthcare management, and legal decision-making options. We believe in a community-based approach to effectively connect youth with opportunities that are a natural part of entering adulthood and to enable them to establish natural supports.
Our sessions and tools are designed to maximise information-sharing between participants and our informal environment enables participants to share their experiences and connect with others. Please contact our Life Skills Facilitator to find out session dates. We are happy to arrange group sessions at our facility, community venues, or through our e-learning virtual classroom.
Look out for our Facebook Forum coming in January! This aims to provide a lasting capacity for youth, families, and service providers to engage in a holistic transition planning process by sharing experiences, questions, and resources. To be kept in the loop, join our Cosmos Group of Companies Facebook Page.
